The dot dot structure in the case of NH3 reveals that the nitrogen atom joins 1 pair of electrons with each of the three H atoms, resulting in a total of three shared pairs of electrons. The ammonia molecule takes a three-sided pyramid-like form because of the distribution of the outer electrons according to its Lewis Beverage cup arrangement. In the dot dotpoint representation of ammonia, the N atom is encircled by three spots, each representing a pair of connected electrons with a hydrogen atom.
